Our Birds

Focused on responsibly-raised food

We primarily raise egg-laying chickens, with a flock of mixed breeds. Right now, half of our chickens are Brown Hylines that our boys raised to show at the County Fair. They showed well at the fair, bringing home blue ribbons and they have just begun laying and should continue to lay well over the winter months. Our remaining pullets and hens are made up of a variety of breeds including Gold and Silver Laced Wyandotte, Barred and Buff Plymouth Rock, Speckled Sussex, Welsummer, Self-Blue Orpington, Olive Egger, Easter Egger. We get baskets of eggs in a wide palette of browns, pinks, blues, greens, and chocolate colors.

Ducks

We have also raised ducks, but last fall we lost our flock to fox attacks. We hope to get some ducklings and a couple of geese to raise this fall in hopes that the geese are able to better protect the flock from foxes. We absolutely loved having the ducks and their cheerful, friendly personalities so we've got a few additional ideas to keep them safe from predators. Our flock was previously Silver Appleyard and Welsh Harlequins, and we liked those breeds so we may do a repeat, or we may decide to branch out and try a new breed or two.
